Positive People (Both with and without HIV),
It is my pleasure to announce that we have filed with the Secretary of State for incorporation! Chris Schreiner, our Treasurer, and I have been working on drafting our initial organizing documents for over 6 months. Once we agreed on our Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, our attornies in New York and Nevada donated their services by reviewing our documents for accuracy and legality. After the attornies approved our documents, we met at the office of Annette Graziano, our Administrative Assistant, to have the documents signed and notarized. After a quick trip to the post office, our documents are on their way for guarenteed delivery by Noon tomorrow!
Processing time is estimated at 2 to 4 weeks. Once we receive the certified copy of our filed Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, we will be legally recognized as a nonprofit organization formed under Nevada state laws. This will enable us to apply for tax-exempt status with the IRS ($400). Once we are awarded exemption from the IRS, this is when all donations are officially considered "charitable donations" - and thus become tax-deductible. Tax-exempt status is required for most grants and adds more of an incentive for the public to donate to our cause.
Now that we are on the "road to becoming legal" we are prioritizing our tasks and objectives to best fit our growth plan. In the near future, we will provide easy access to our internal project management system. This transparent business practice will allow our members and the public direct access to our development, tasks, strengths, weaknesses and GBOGs (great, big, over-the-top goals) as they apply to our organization. As our development progresses, if there are questions, concerns or suggestions from our members (or the public), internal project management access will make contacting us quick, and simple.
In closing, I would like to take a moment to introduce Chris Schreiner as our Treasurer. This role is directly responsible for all policies, procedures and activities related to money within our organization. To take on this tremendous responsibility is no small feat. I am excited to see how Chris helps the organization grow, and how the organization helps Chris grow as well. In the next few days, I have asked Chris to introduce himself - so watch the Board Blog for his welcome message.
We need your help, more than ever! Now that we are incorporated we have a list of projects we need help with. If you are interested in applying for a volunteer position, please click here.
