Friends and Family of Phil Wells,
In the wake of the shocking news that our beloved bartender Phil Wells was murdered at The Garage on November 14th, 2011, I’m Positive, Inc. has organized an emergency fundraiser to help Phil’s loved ones provide for funeral arrangements and memorial services. Since the account was opened on November 15th, we have received 30 online donations and 2 in-branch donations for a total of $1,292! In addition, I’m Positive, Inc. is donating all PayPal fees associated with the online donations to the Phil Wells Benefit Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo to ensure 100% of all donations make it to the family. We have also sponsored a permanent online memorial site located at: www.forevermissed.com/phillip-wells/
The family is laying Phil to rest at Groman Eden Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA on Sunday, November 20th, 2011 at 3:30pm. The Las Vegas community is holding a memorial service on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 at First Congressional Church United Church of Christ beginning at 3pm. The family also wants to establish a living memorial tree in a local park to offer Phil’s friends and family in Las Vegas a place to mourn Phil’s death, and to remember his life. The cost of the funeral in California is $15,355.75. The cost of the memorial tree is to be determined however, we estimate this cost to be $300-$800.
I’m Positive, Inc. is prepared to work hard with the community to raise enough funds to cover all expenses for the funeral in California and the Las Vegas memorial tree to honor the family’s wishes. We have also reached out to the Nevada Victims of Crime Program to help defray the costs of Phil’s arrangements. We will not stop fundraising until we have enough funds to cover all costs.
All businesses and community organizations are strongly encouraged to deposit any monies raised to the Phil Wells Benefit Memorial Fund online, or at ANY Wells Fargo Branch. All funds will remain in the memorial fund account until enough money is raised to cover all expenses for the family. Payments from the fund will be allocated directly to the mortuary for the funeral and directly to the Parks & Recreation Department for the memorial tree. Any funds left over, the family wishes to have split evenly between a Las Vegas animal charity and a Las Vegas LGBT charity.
We sincerely appreciate all of the support that has poured out from the community in response to this tragic event. A community is impossible without unity. Let’s show Phil’s family exactly how the LGBT community takes care of each other. I urge you to make a donation, of any amount, to the Phil Wells Benefit Memorial Fund; either online or at any Wells Fargo branch.
