Dynamic and creative. Honest and passionate. Words I’d use to describe myself quickly. I’m an all-around advocate for many causes and for many reasons. I have unique strengths when it comes to the non-profit sector but there are still many things I’d like to conquer.
- Proven track record in fundraising, event planning, and implementation.
- Outstanding communication and personal management skills.
- Expertise in organization transparency and community involvement.
I’ve been in the non-profit profession for the last 4 or so years but also a little here and there as I was growing up. Most recently, I worked for a refugee resettlement agency in Las Vegas as their Resource Developer and Volunteer Coordinator. I was responsible for raising donations, cash and in-kind, along with recruiting volunteers. I also planned several events throughout the year to raise awareness about refugees but also to raise much needed funds. I naturally enjoy helping people and this type of profession allows me to do so. I’ve received several different awards over the last several years but one I’m extremely proud of was just in January of 2013. I was awarded the Nevada Governor’s Points of Light Award for the 2013 Volunteer Manager of the Year. A huge accomplishment being so new in our non-profit community, compared to those also nominated in my category.
I grew up in a small town in Blanchester, Ohio, with cows and cornfields everywhere you look. My hometown is quite small, around 10,000 or so people, having graduated with 126 students in my class. I loved growing up in a small town, it’s all I ever knew, but I certainly wouldn’t go back to it. I knew my life was meant to be helping people and I knew I had to head for the city. A few years after graduating I took one of the largest leaps in my life, I headed to Mozambique, Africa to teach HIV and AIDS education. I went with a non-profit group, Humana People to People, and it was with them that I realized that being involved was my calling.
Fast forward to now. Having moved to Las Vegas about 7 ½ years ago, I met the guy that would change my life forever. My partner, Kyle, has brought new meaning to the term “love” for me; it’s a love like no other. We’ve been together almost exactly 7 years and each year just keeps getting better and better. We’ve got two Yorkies, brothers, 5 years old, named Dolce and Gabbana. Yes, I chose the name and Kyle went along with it after a small struggle. I’ve got a variety of different hobbies, the normal ones that include traveling the world, volunteering often, shopping, music, etc. For the past 10 years or so, I’ve been collecting celebrity memorabilia and celebrity autographs. If you were to pull up my internet history, you’ll see visits to just about every popular celebrity blog there is. It’s just a hobby and I enjoy reading up on the celebrity gossip.
I believe in I’m Positive, Inc. and I believe in Thomas Lahey. He’s shown time and time again that he’s passionate about this organization and is able to hold his own. I believe in the goals of this organization and I believe in our members, supporters, and those partnerships already established. I want to take I’m Positive to the next level with submitting our tax-exempt application in the coming weeks, increasing our Charter Members, building new relationships with other non-profit organizations and businesses, and gaining momentum for our community relationships.
As I finish up my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, I want to remain focused on goals of helping others and my community. I look forward to this experience, the lessons I’ll learn, the knowledge I’ll gain, and the knowledge I’ll be able to provide. I’m excited about getting to know each of our members on a more personal level and encourage each of you to contact me directly any time there is a need. We encourage ALL feedback and we look forward to working together for a solution.
